Making Sense of Menopause:
Harnessing the Power and Potency of Your Wisdom Years

A note from the author

I have been exploring the menopausal transition with women, exclusively for the last 20 years, and I have learned a few things: women want to do the developmental work of midlife. They want to harness the power they feel rising up as they are finally able to stand for themselves and look back on their first few decades of life, and they want to live a potent, vibrant life into their elder years.

Working with hundreds of women, I have come to understand what this work is, how women can most easily embrace it, and what the profound gifts are if they do. Western medicine wants to “fix” the symptoms of menopause, but looks no further.  Menopause is not a problem to be “fixed”.  In fact, it can be the most powerful time of a woman’s life.

I have written my book in such a way that a woman can choose to read it only for the information on the body, the process of menopause, or self-care if she chooses; or she can engage with the work personally, step by step, with a journal, therapist, or with a women’s group.  Engaging personally with the Continuum Process in the book will help you to come into present time, uncover what is authentic for you now and move into the world more potently, and with vibrant health and well-being.

The world needs the potency and wisdom of mature women more than ever. Think what a world this would be if we, as ‘women of a certain age’, were living our full potential, standing in our power and giving our gifts. It is the world I want to live in. I invite you to join me.

About the book

The generation of women currently reaching midlife is the first to really speak openly about menopause, yet the messages of our medical community and popular culture are ones of loss and diminishment.   Menopause is isolated from the rest of the arc of a woman’s experience and the focus is on treating hot flashes and clinging to the appearance of youthfulness, rather than embracing this very powerful phase of a woman’s life.

In Making Sense of Menopause, this well-loved women’s health practitioner helps us reframe this experience, beginning with an eye-opening examination of the falsehoods we have absorbed about ourselves as women, and offering a fascinating look into the deep sea change happening at menopause to our biology, our creativity and our authenticity. She shows how our bodies and brains powerfully prepare us to enter this next rich phase of our lives.

With Making Sense of Menopause, this compelling author offers a much-needed guide for women making the physical, emotional and spiritual transition to the Wisdom years.
